History of Khola Chhad Unlimited
Khola Chhad Unlimited (খোলা ছাদ আনলিমিটেড) was formed on April 29, 2018, in the serene hills of Bandarban, Bangladesh, marking a historic milestone as the country’s first-ever child and teenage alternative rock band. The idea of the band was born from a shared dream—to give young musicians a voice and create original rock music rooted in passion, freedom, and self-expression.
In the early days, the band began with simple jam sessions under open skies, where creativity flowed naturally. With limited resources but unlimited determination, the members practiced tirelessly, experimenting with sounds, lyrics, and melodies. These formative sessions shaped the band’s identity and laid the foundation for what would become a distinctive alternative rock sound.
As the band grew, Mr. Gazi Md. Sohel, the Founder and Lyrics Writer, played a crucial role in guiding the group, nurturing discipline, creativity, and lyrical depth. With the support of experienced mentors, the band gained confidence and musical maturity at a very young age.
By 2018–2019, Khola Chhad Unlimited started performing on local stages and cultural programs in Bandarban, including educational institutions and government events. Their early performances at festivals such as Rag Day 2018, Band Fest 2019, SANGRAI Festival 2019, and the Bandarban Book Fair 2019 earned them recognition and appreciation from diverse audiences.
During the Covid-19 pandemic (2020), when live shows came to a halt, the band adapted to the situation by connecting with audiences through Facebook Live performances and radio programs. Appearances on Radio Carnival and Radio Baksho, along with live sessions with local cultural platforms, helped them stay active and creative during challenging times.
In 2021, the band returned to the stage with renewed energy, performing at major government events such as World Tourism Day 2021 at Bangabandhu Mukto Mancho, Bandarban. This period marked a significant step in their growth, showcasing their professionalism and musical confidence.
The year 2023 became a major milestone when Khola Chhad Unlimited appeared on Duronto TV’s “Durontopona”, bringing national media recognition to the band. The same year, they performed at prominent cultural events, including the Spring Festival 2023 and Cultural Fair 2023, further establishing their presence in the Bangladeshi rock scene.
By 2024 and 2025, the band had become a familiar name at large open-air festivals, particularly the SANGRAI Festival, performing in front of massive audiences at Rajar Mathh, Bandarban. These performances symbolized the band’s journey from young dreamers to confident performers representing a new generation of Bangladeshi rock musicians.
Over the years, Khola Chhad Unlimited has created 13 original songs, each reflecting different phases of their journey, emotions, and artistic evolution. Their music stands as a testament to growth, resilience, and the power of youthful creativity.
Today, Khola Chhad Unlimited continues to move forward with a clear vision—to inspire young artists, experiment fearlessly with sound, and leave a lasting impact on the future of Bangladeshi alternative rock music. Their history is not just a timeline of events, but a story of dreams turned into reality under an open sky.
